OF THE ORGANIZATION’S MANY ACTIVITIES, WE LISTEN HERE TO THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES:

Helppes has been organizing annual reconditioning stays for clients since 2005 under the guidance of experienced workers and associates of the organization.
In addition to developing the dog’s skills and improving cooperation with the dog for practical service, the reconditioning stay activities are also focused on the development of clients – improving fine and gross motor skills, tactile abilities, increasing concentration, developing memory, thinking, observation, agility, courage, spatial orientation and teamwork

Since the beginning of its activities, Helppes has placed great emphasis on educational activities that contribute to improving the integration of people with various types of disabilities and bring the work and importance of canine assistants closer to the general public – from preschool children to the professionally oriented public.
As part of educational programs, participants are introduced to the lives of people with disabilities and their canine assistants.

Lectures, workshops and discussions, combined with demonstrations of canine assistants’ skills, can be ordered and agreed upon with the assistant director, Mrs. Natália Nováková, tel.: 739 074 968, e-mail: natalie@helppes.cz.

Demonstrations of canine assistants’ skills, lectures, workshops and discussions must be ordered well in advance – thank you for your understanding.

Helppes employees, collaborators and volunteers constantly and regularly improve their qualifications and education, both in the field of professional approach and work with clients, as well as in preparation and methodological procedures in dog training. They participate in seminars, retraining courses, conferences, training courses, workshops, etc. on a national and international level.

Every year, Helppes organizes several interesting events for the general public, which are primarily aimed at familiarizing the public with the issues of people with disabilities and their four-legged helpers.
The most prestigious and largest event is the annual public graduation ceremony of the canine students of a given year, called Super Day. This day becomes a real super day for many clients, because here they receive their new canine helper from the hands of patrons – important and popular personalities from the world of show business and public life, and their new canine helper receives a certificate and thus becomes a “legal” four-legged helper.

Every year, Helppes organizes the Czech Championship in Assistance Dog Performance and the Czech Championship in Guide Dogs in cooperation with the Special Training Club of the Czech Cynological Association. The Czech Championship in Assistance Dog Performance is the only competition of its kind in the world. Both competitions are the only competitions of this type in the Czech Republic, which are judged by national and international, completely independent experts – judges, trained in the issues of people with disabilities and their four-legged helpers. Owners of assistance and guide dogs from all over the Czech Republic can participate in the competition, regardless of which training entity they have their dog from.

The end of the year traditionally belongs to the St. Nicholas Day for all good (and naughty) dogs. This is an integrative and fun competition event. After the classic sharing, healthy dog owners compete in joint competitions with owners of dog helpers. The competitions are prepared so that the chances of success are equal. Some competition disciplines are therefore held in a wheelchair, with crutches, or with flaps on the eyes or ears. For healthy people, it is an opportunity to experience what it is like to live with a disability, and for those who live with a disability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it is a chance to succeed in competitions regardless of their disability.

Current information about these and other events can be found in the Calendar of Events or News, photos and videos from the events can be found in our Gallery.

Only a well-behaved dog can be a pleasant companion who does not endanger himself or his surroundings with his behavior. For dog owners living in the capital, a well-behaved dog is a must, because danger lurks for both in city traffic almost everywhere. Only an owner who learns to understand his dog can raise him well.

Detailed information about dog socialization courses and contacts for instructors can be found here.

Since September 2005, Helppes has been publishing a quarterly newsletter – the “Helppsík” bulletin, which provides readers from among clients, supporters and the general public with information about Helppes’ activities, interesting facts and stories of owners of canine assistants. The expert editor of Helppsík is the co-owner of the publishing house Canistr, Zuzana Trankovská ml.
